TO SHOW RESPECT, SELF-DISCIPLINE, and COURTESY:
01. Be on time and ready to go when your class starts.
We realize that sometimes things
will be out of your control and will affect you showing up on time. That is no
problem. But if you are someone who is chronically late, we encourage you to
work on this, as it is disruptive and disrespectful towards your fellow training partners who need you to be here to help
them learn and grow. If you show up after the stretches have been completed,
there is no guarantee you’ll be able to participate in the class.
02. Turn off your cell phones/pagers when in the academy.
03. Absolutely no foul language/cursing inside the academy.
04. Classes begin/end with a lining up and a formal meditation.
In this focusing exercise you will
close your eyes, let your arms hang by your sides and inhale through the nose and exhale through rounded lips. While you are breathing with this method, your whole focus is to get into the present moment and let go
of any tension or tightness you might be holding onto in you mind, body or spirit. You
are also encouraged to bring a fresh energy to your body. The instructor will
give you different verbal suggestions on what to focus on and/or imagery to use.
05. During classes, talking should be kept to a MINUMUM
level and should relate to the class subject.
We like to have a lot of fun at
the academy, but we also like to stay focused on what we are here for. So please
feel free to chat it up with your fellow students before and after class, and get to know them better. We have some very interesting people in class!
06. When the instructor is demonstrating a technique,
please give them your FULL attention.
07. Please address the instructors/class leaders by their first name.
08. Students are allowed to come into the academy 15
minutes before their regularly scheduled class to get ready. If you arrive earlier
than this, please wait outside of the academy.
FOR SAFETY AND CLEANLINESS:
01. If you are late for class, please sit on the bench
and wait for permission from the instructor to join the class. If you need to leave early please inform the instructor as soon as possible.
02. All jewelry, piercings, etc. should be removed before class.
03. No shoes, food or drinks on the mat, unless given
permission.
04. Please make sure that your workout clothes and/or uniforms are freshly washed before class.
05. Martial Arts students need to keep their toe and
finger nails trimmed, to avoid cutting other students.
06. If you have a cut or open wound, it is URGENT that
you get it bandaged up well to protect you and others.
07. If you have any kind of skin disease/infection
(athletes foot, staph, etc.) please make sure that that body part is fully covered.
If you have something that is very contagious, please take the time off to keep from spreading it to others.
08. After every class, we wipe down the mats with a
disinfectant spray and towels. We usually need 3-4 volunteers to help do this. So that the same students don’t often get left wiping down the mats every time,
you should expect to be a volunteer for this about every 2nd to 3rd
time that you come in for a class.
